Whiplash Chiropractic Neck Treatment
Whiplash is often an invisible injury as the damage done to the affected muscles and ligaments does not usually show up in an X-ray. So how can you treat an injury which can't be seen? Chiropractic treatment for whiplash is the solution.
How does a whiplash injury affect my neck?
Rather than a simple sprain to the muscles and ligaments of the neck, whiplash from a car accident can grossly alter your usual neck movement. Normally the joints on the back of your neck glide over each other and are self-lubricated but a whiplash injury forces them together, damaging the surrounding area. The symptoms of whiplash can also include headaches, arm pain and fatigue. Although car accidents are a common cause of whiplash injuries, slips, falls or any sudden movement can also produce similar symptoms.
How will chiropractic neck treatment help my whiplash?
After discussing your medical history, your chiropractor will examine every area of your neck to see if it's moving properly. In some cases they may take a special series of X-rays called flexion/extension views to show any abnormal movement in your neck. Once you have been diagnosed, the chiropractic treatment will begin with gentle, specific adjustments to your neck. These adjustments will decrease pain and restore normal movement to the area.
What happens after the chiropractic treatment?
Alongside and after the manipulative chiropractic treatment you will be shown rehabilitation techniques to aid the recovery of your injury. These techniques include Swiss ball and hand/eye co-ordination exercises which will help to retrain any receptors which may have been damaged through your whiplash injury.
